"Shadows of Archanon" the beginning part 2....or 25 is too many posts.

So the epic conclusion to what was in game time a near three day rage fest/ celebration of violence. The heros having failed to find what they were looking for, stumbled upon the " hidden" family crypts of the Lansend family hanging from the side of the cliff and only accessable from the winch(wench?) driven cage! The crew saw a group of ghouls on the crypt below them.Sir Edmond Lockheart slide down the rope and landed in the middle of the group and shocked them, in turn they started to back away from the surprise. Craaga jumped down and squished a ghoul while becoming shaken from the fall. Khovari slide down the rope behind Edmond and launched three purple bolts of energy that all missed their marks. Jean jumped down but was unable to land an attack or hurt the ghoul he dropped on but was able to shake it. Edmond ran up and shield bashed the ghoul squad leader into a hole in the floor (which was fairly large and ornate, and below was a great fountain) and all that was heard when it hit was a splash. Khovari swung his staff and landed a blow in which crushed the ghouls skull. The ghouls rush in to attack and hopefully gain the advantage but all attempts were unsuccessful. Jean cleaves a ghoul off at the head. Craaga grabs a ghoul near him and hurls him into the cliff face which breaks every bone in it’s body as the corpse fell to the grand approx. 300 feet below. Jean rolls up to the closest ghoul with an uppercut from his axe and destroys it. Khovari launches a triple blast of bolts and hit all three intended targets in which they all evaporate into nothingness. Ghouls continue to fight and have gained no advantage. A ghoul tried to shove Edmond off of his feet until Craaga jumped in and takes the hit with no damage. Edmond runs the ghoul in front of him through with his long sword and ends its pitiful existence. He then runs up to another ghoul and knocks it off it’s feet then guts it from navel to collar bone. Ghouls are failing to gain any ground and defeat looks imminent for them as they fail to land any hits. Jean misses his swing attack against the ghoul he was locked in combat with. Craaga grabs the ghoul by the neck and yells batters up to Sir Edmond. Khovari tried to swing at the ghoul in Craaga’s hands but missed the attack. Craaga then throws the ghoul at Edmond. Edmond in turn swung his sword, which mightily connected with the flying ghoul. The hit cleaves the ghoul in two with guts and blood going everywhere. Khovari and Jean both swing at the last ghoul but both are unsuccessful in the attempts. Jean in furious rage from missing his last attack puts his might behind one last swing, which decapitates it. after this short sharp fight, the party examines the area and the great  The party then jumps down into the fountain below, in persuit of the ghoul cheiftain and the mysteries that awaited. The heroes deftly descend (translated as leapt without looking into the water) after they all landed in the central chamber a wet musky smell was in the air and creepers on the walls of the anceint tomb complex, Khovari and Jean could not contain their curiousity and wandered into the room to their right while Craaga and Sir Emond boldly went left, because we all know what a wonderful idea splitting the party truly is. What Jean and Khovari discovered was one of the secrets of the Lansend family. A great Mural of the bloodlines of the five great houses of the Duchy. The magic in it still made it update as new people where born, married, and died, making it a living patens of nobility and a true way to mark the heirs to the great houses. Sir Emond and Craage discovered the secret "library" which was merely one enchanted bookshelf belonging to the late, mad Dame Lansend. The family heirloom and object of the quest was the one book missing, the area had been rummaged in a hurry.. it would seem the missing ghoul king chose discretion over valour in his war with our heros and took the tome and fled, leaving some of his hapless minions as rearguard to slow the heros down. The ghoul cheiftain who had escaped after falling, went into the chamber of the guardian and summoned the watery guardian of the crypt. Hearing the chanting of the ghoul, Sir Emond and Craaga rush into the summoning chamber, not looking below him sir Emond barrels into the water! Edmond runs directly through the water guardian with his shield raised and closed the distance to the ghoul. He then swung his sword at the ankles of the ghoul and connected doing two wounds and shaking it. Back in the chamber with Jean and Khovari, the heros while enthralled with the living glowing mural, then take notice of the massive chunk of the floor missing! an enchanted rope hung from a hook hastily pounded into the floor. Jean went over to examine it and then triggered a spirit trap! Khovari, thinking fast shoots a bolt at the spirit and the spirit evaporates back into the void. The Ghoul Leader tries to hit Edmond in the head for the strike against him but misses. The Guardian then uses its turn to summon a lesser water guardian from the pool Edmond was standing in. Craaga throws an axe at the head of the Ghoul Leader and it sinks into its skull, which throws it off of the pedestal in the middle of the pool. Khovari realizing that the pedestal was the key yells at Edmond and Craaga that one needs to get onto the pedestal to control the elementals then looks down at the hole in the floor. Jean climbs through the hole in the wall to try and help his two friends. The water guardians batter at Craga and Edmond with watery limbs. Craaga rolls out of the way while Edmond blocks with his shield. Edmond climbs up onto the pedestal and commands everything to stop. He looks around to see that the guardians halt all actions and stand in wait. Sir Edmond then told them to then return from where they came, and they disappeared back into the pool. The heros then rest to recover and look down the rope into the tight canopy of the great aspen forest called "Hags Hollow" a haunted and sinister forest. That was where the ghoul king fled, that was were the heros would persue!

The party still somewhat drained but with their quarry so tantalizingly close gave a determined persuit! swiftly descending the rope (despite noone having climbing skills, and a few bennies later) they arrived on the f0rest floor. The haunting cathedral of trees gave off an almost eerie glow in the darkness. The party was walking through a dark murky forest when they suddenly felt a chill, while our heros made great efforts to not lose the trail, they were woefully unaware of thier other surroundings....swiftly  realizing they were outnumbered drastically and surrounded by ghouls, wights, a pair of wraiths and a foul Necromancer! Our heros once again showing their mettle, undaunted lept to the attack ( and without bothering to plan the battle or even consider such quaint notions as "tactics" ) Khovari shifts to the right and hurls three purple bolts of energy at the Necromancer causing it to take damage and become stunned! the wicked creature was unprepared for the skill at which the Eldakar could manipulate the magics. Jean charged off after the nearest group of ghouls to the left of the party but misses his attack swing.Edmond charges at the nearest group of ghouls to the right flank and closes the distance, bellowing out his characteristic profanity laced tirades disparaging his foes parantage. Mighty Craaga charges the group in front but misses his attacks also. The enemy starts to close around the heroes. It started to look grim. The ghouls surrounding him hit Sir Edmond but his armor takes the hit! Craaga turns and jumps at the ghouls approaching Khovari. The ghouls miss their attacks on Craaga as he turns on them. Craaga smashes one of the ghouls he lands on into jelly. Jean swings his axe at the ghoul on the rock to his left but misses and takes a chunk out of it. The ghouls continue to encroach on the heroes. The Necromancer soaked his wound into the profane rock menhir directly behind him. Craaga was able to shake the ghouls off that were trying to bring him down. Khovari was about to get hit by a claw attack, but before it could land Craaga jumped in the way and neither took any damage. It was able to shake Craaga with its filthy talons. Edmond is again hit but his armor is once again too strong for the claws and makeshift weapons of the ghouls. Jean was able to parry the attack from the ghoul in front of him. Edmond uses his shield to hurl the two ghouls and their leader back off of him to allow some breathing room. Jean grabs the ghoul off of the rock by the ankle and throws it towards the one directly before him. He misses the throw but drills him into the ground smashing every bone in its body, still in a fury and still bellowing out profanities that make sailors blush. Khovari fires another three bolts at different targets shaking one and vaporizing the other two. Craaga grabs one of the ghouls and swinging him like a bat into another killing both on impact. He then gives a smile at the slaughter happening and lets out a great belly laugh that causes some constirnation amongst the enemy. The enemy continues to swarm around bold Sir Edmond single handedly holding down the right flank while another group goes down the left towards Jean, Khovari and Craaga. All of the ghouls who could do so, try to attack the heroes but unable to get through their defenses. Even so the ancient Wight Captain summoned from his ages of sleep advances on the paladin Sir Emond, a green witchfire in his long dead eye sockets, the ancient dead moves forward implacably towards a confrontation between life and death raising its antique iron blade it rains blows down on Sir Edmond but was unable to land a damaging blow. Seeing this the Necromancer hurled a black bolt towards Sir Edmond but it just deflected off of his shield. Sir Edmond then used his blessed shield to bash the wight captain into a spin and show it’s back. Then slammed his sword down onto its spine shattering the brittle old bones, the ancient evil returned to dust! Jean reaches out and uses his hands to smash a ghoul’s head between them. Craaga ran at the wight approaching him ( doing his best NFL Linebacker impression) at his left and gave it a flying body tackle, which resulted in the wight shattering into dust and Craaga landing on his feet to the left of Jean. Khovari runs up to two of the ghouls approaching him and cracks both on the head to no true avail and threw three bolts into a ghoul leader shaking it. The enemy closes in on Khovari and Jean. three ghouls started to try and over power Edmond in a vain attempt to bring the mighty paladin to his knees,  but were unable to match his strength and he shook them loose. A ghoul tried to claw at Khovari but was parried by his staff. The Necromancer hurled a black bolt at Craaga who in turn just shrugged it off. A wraith tries to attack Craaga and missed. So it tried to frighten him with a loud horrific screech, the wailing of the wraith filled the air, and in such cases the less stout of heart will shudder in fear at the mournful sound, but not Craaga of the Gathers, such things didn’t faze him at all. The second Wraith approaches Sir Edmond and takes the place of the fallen wight captain. The Wraith was unable to attack after moving so swiftly through the woods. The ghouls all attack and were unable to leave any marks, again the futility of their actions becoming apparent and energizing the heros will to triumph,  The ghoul leader closed in on Khovari and shakes him with a filth encrusted claw wound. A wight tried to hit Jean but was successfully parried by the hero, Jeans great axe battering aside the rusted iron of the wights sword. Jean reached out with one hand and grabbed the wright by the head and pulled. The head popped off and the bones fell to the ground motionless. Craaga lowers into a duck and missed the swing from the Wraith. Craaga then let out a barbaric cry and took off charging to the top of the mound in the middle of the battlefield. He leaped and smashed down on a ghoul and wight moving in to attack Khovari killing both of them. He then rolled to his feet a little shaken by the whole endeavor. by this time victory was slipping decisively out of the enemies hands as Jean and Craaga nearly annhilated the entire left flank by themselves while Edmond still held the entire right flank!! calling on the power of the light and with a mighty blow Sir Emond killed the wraith in a single slashing motion (using his big bennie ((which he got for being both our photographer AND chronicler at the same time)) ).Khovari does a wide  sweep against the two ghouls on him with his staff but none connect. Jean starts off barreling over the top of the mound and takes off flying towards the Necromancer at the back of the battlefield near an enchanted rock, Jean isnt sure quite why he hates this particular skinny little wimp, but in his confusion about how he sounds more sissy than the powerful Khovari yet still causes pain with little flying lights, Jean decides its time to bash the little geek. Jean  makes the jump more or less, using the long handle of his greataxe to sinkthe heavy blade into the Necromancers (censored) sternum. Which threw him off of his rock to the ground still alive? (barely) but wounded and shaken. Craaga runs around the right flank being held by Edmond and threw an axe that dug itself into the skull of the Necromancer delivering the fatal blow. The final wraith near Jean shreiks and vanished out of existence. Khovari un-shook form being hit. Four ghouls tried to run away from the battle with Sir Edmond after the defeat of their leaders. Three were able to make it but the fourth fell beneath his blade. Sir Edmond then ran towards the ghoul at Kovaris back and threw his whole weight behind his shield and landed onto it crushing it. Craaga sensing the evil residing in the stone menhir destroyed the enchanted rock which returned stolen spell power to Khovari.....

..Sweating and exhausted, aching and bruised our heros surveyed the carnage about them, it would seem the ghoul king was getting desperate to escape the persuit. the 4 hunters gained courage from this. Racing down the trail following the ghoul kings cumbersome steps they dodged trees and brambles, never slowing thier pace, relying on their great vigor (literally) until they finally broke the cover of the forest and took a short break to catch their breath in a meadow. They searched for the path the ghoul king took... with horror they realized that the ghoul king had been on a deliberate path! That path led to a small village on the wolf river. When our heros arrived they smelled the stench of carrion, in the night the ghoul king and his minions descended upon the village and wrought destruction on the villagers that in their rage they could not wreak upon the heros. Our heros were outraged at the site, and rapidly searched the village, finding that only 1 boat was missing, they deduced that the ghoul king had fled out onto the great wolf lake...

Our heros swiftly grabbed a canoe and raced out onto the lake in hot persuit. With muscles straining Craaga, Big Jean, and Sir Emond powered the canoe across the water. Khovari's keen eldakar sight caught a glimpse of the  slower moving vessel that the ghoul king stole, the "lucky lady"...luck would not be with the ghoul king this evening on the lake! Catching  up to the Ghoul King Kovari shoots three blasts at long range, two missed but the third hit the King with no damage. as the canoe raced forward to make contact, Craaga tied a rope to his waist and jumped into the enemy ship once they were side by side. He tried to attack on his landing but just keeps hitting the wood of the hull throwing wood chunks into the air in a frenzy. Khovari threw one huge heavy bolt into the hull of the enemy vessel at the waterline and blew a gaping hole into it. In turn it started to take on water and slowly list starboard. Jean pulled the parties canoe to the side of the enemy ship( by yanking as hard as his mighty arms could on the rope attached to a now braced Craaga) with such a jolt when it hits to throw both crews. Jean and some of the ghouls fell from the hit.The ghouls who fell then stood up and tried to hit Craga but missed. The Ghoul King swung to hit Kovari in the head but was unable to do any damage. Sir Edmond climbed onto the enemy ship and attack the enemy caster but does no damage. The Ghoul King delivered a mighty blow against Sir Edmond which caused serious damage (3 wounds), stunning him, and sent him flying onto the Hero’s boat. Khovari got hit by a bolt from the enemy spell caster and was shaken. It seemed that the momentum had swung in favor of the forces of evil!
Khovari un-shook and stepped back out of reach and the launched another bolt towards the Ghoul King and hit with no damage. Craaga uses his shield to try and smash a ghoul but ended up just pinning him to the hull. Edmond stood up and regained his feet from the massive hit on their vessel. Jean lept onto the enemy ship and hits the King with thundering force, shaking him. Khovari, realizing that the massive ghoul king would be hard to bring down cast a boost spell on Jean raising his strength by two. Filled with new energy and a very mean disposition, Jean then swung with no mercy at the Ghoul King doing two wounds and shaking him again. Edmond drops his shield and jumps up onto the enemy deck. Using the short enemy caster as a spring board jumps up in a last ditch effort to regain the advantage staggers the King back giving Jean an opening as the ghoul king staggered back under the force of the injured paladins onslaught ( a  free attack). Jean seized the advantage to obliterate the king with a single final blow that shatters the ghoul kings chest and causes him to fall off the ship into the lake... dead. The enemy tries to regain the advantage back and avenge their fallen leader but it was to no avail and failure seems near for them. Craaga throws a ghoul back into a stagger. Khovari presses the attack which shoots a bolt into the enemy caster blowing him to bits. Sir Edmond jumps down onto a ghoul surrounding Craaga and stuns it. Jean fiercly walks up to the Captain Ghoul of the ship with eyes full of rage and snaps it’s neck then throws the lifeless corpse into the lake. Craaga moves forward towards the bow of ship like a raging shark hacking through ghouls shaking them. The ghouls try and attack Craaga and Khovari but no strikes find their targets. Sir Edmond misses his attack swing on the ghoul and swings wide while he struggles to maintain composure with his hindering wounds. Craaga grabs a barrel next to him and smashes it over a hapless ghoul's head  killing both the barrel and the ghoul. Khovari grabs Sir Emonds shield and uses it as a breastplate as he jumps onto a ghoul near Emond and behind Craaga. The ghoul gets crushed dead and then Khovari stands up and returns the shield to Sir Emond with a chuckle. Jean drops down onto a ghoul but missed his attack and sank his axe into the wooden deck. The enemy swings at Emond but misses and another ghoul leaps on Jean while he is exposed with his axe buried in the hull, the ghoul hits Jean with a wounding slash from a filth and grime encrusted hatchet. Enemy attacks all of the heroes with all missing except for the hit on Craaga, although it did no damage. Sir Emond fights through the pain and rushed to assist Jean who now has a ghoul on his back stabbing with rabid fury! Sir Emond pins the ghoul in front to the bulkhead and brings his long sword down onto its skull killing it. Jean shook off the stunned feeling and regained his composure bleeding profusely from multiple stabs. Craaga tries to grab at a ghoul but it dodges his grasp, knowing that being caught in those great meat hook hands meant death. Khovari grabs the treasure chest next to the pilot house and started to move it towards the hero’s ship. The enemy near Jean savagely shanks him, which then led to Jean falling to the ground incapacitated from his wounds. Sir Edmond upon seeing this runs up to the ghoul that felled his friend and spun it around reveling its unprotected chest, he then drove his sword through its heart delivering the killing vengeful blow. Khovari jumps into the other ship with the treasure and prepares for the departure. Water is now causing the ship to list dangerously and its now only a short time before it sinks below the waves! Craaga turns and runs to grab Jean, picks him up and places him into the ship with Khovari. Sir Emond hops into the ship and they start to push off. As they drifted away Craaga jumped and landed in the boat, unfortunately two ghouls jump after and land on the bow also. Emond and Craaga grab the side of the boat and do a quick rock, which knocked one into the water sending it down to a watery grave. Craaga shield bashes the others to pieces. The final four ghouls do a last ditch effort and jump for the heroes who were escaping. Two didn’t make it, but the others did. Craaga tries to bash with his shield but slips on some water and misses. Sir Emond having his fill of the conflict and wanting to relax and recover his wounds took out his dagger and threw it at one of the two surviving ghouls hitting it square in the skull, driving the blade through. It fell lifelessly into the lake taking Sir Emonds dagger also to a watery grave ( to quote.." damm, lost my knife!" ). Craaga uses his sword to cleave the final ghoul into pieces bringing the epic chase and fight to a close! Our heroes, though battered and bleeding ( and in the case of Jean, unconcious) are triumphant!! Khovari opens the chest to reveal the Tome of Lansend! the very relic they sought! turning north on the lake, Sir Emond remembers the small town of Roi Poissen ( the king fish) and stears his exhausted companions there. The town, named after the pub of the same name ( the town sprung up around the pub, which originally was the only building and a place where fishermen went to escape their wives and shirk their duties with a few pints) was bustling with the activity of fisherfolk. Sir Emond tossed a line to a boy at the pier and told him "tie her up" and handed the lad some coins, a small fortune. Then they limped into the Pub, where they got a room to dump Jeans big unconcous oaf of a body into bed. Making sure their companion was in no serious harm ( he took a nasty gut wound that will heal when his last wound is recovered) they went down to beer and food...the healing magic of ale awoken Big Jean who despite his stitches and pain, rushed down the stairs to get a pitcher and some meat. Khovari took the book to his room to read the entries and uncover the mystery of the attack on Chateau Lockhart. Discovering the tale of the hag, Khovari became concerned that this was all a plot to bring that ancient evil back into the land, but who would do so and why yet eluded him. Down in the bar room, Craaga got himself a picher of ale per hand and a full  pipe to go along with a full belly of fish and venison, sitting by the fire in the corner, he reminisced about that skull cleaving throw against the necromancer. He knew he saw that vile face before, and relaxed assured that one more step toward avenging his gather had been taken. Sir Emond sat stone faced at the bar, slowly drinking his ale and pondering the mysteries they had uncovered, it had been a hard four days and they had been in battle near non stop. As he sat their, a tall, tan woman with bright red hair approached and with a thick Nazatiri accent said "Sir Emond, I presume? You may not remember me, but I am a friend of the family, my name is Carlotina, and I am here to help  you.." things got stranger by the moment. As Sir Emond and his new companion went to find Khovari, in the corner Craaga grunted "oh great, so much for rest and relaxation, that looks like trouble" he then stuffed another game hen down his gullet and prepared for the next step...always another step!
