Introductions Thread

Say hello and introduce yourself!

I'm Al, I live in the south of England (where we are currently having a monstrous heat wave), and I've been gaming since 2002. The vast majority of the time I've been involved in the hobby has been running games in various editions of Dungeons & Dragons but I've also run World of Darkness, Burning Wheel, a bunch of d20 games (like Star Wars Saga), and some smaller indie games like The Shadow of Yesterday.

I've been aware of Savage Worlds for a number of years but only in passing - it wasn't until late 2011 that I picked up the book and started to run games. Since then I've largely been running Pathfinder APs* using Savage Worlds (for me it's just a better fit to my playstyle than the Pathfinder rules).

I came across Shaintar by accident about 24 hours before the end of kickstarter, and I decided right then and there to get involved. For me, Shaintar is a setting that generates the kind of stories I've been participating in for years, and all with the streamlined (yet still deliciously crunchy) rules of Savage Worlds.

I'm also very interested in becoming involved in Justice & Life. I've never participated in a living campaign.

*Just to mention I'm not usually a module/adventure path guy - in fact for my first nine years of running games I never used one - they've just worked well for me recently.

Lessoc

 I'm Les.

I live in Western Arkansas in the U.S. I unfortunately missed the kickstarter by about a week but I have been keeping track of Shaintar since then. I have been playing roleplaying games since 1999 or so and have had my own dynamic game world since 2001 or so. I have been searching around for a good fantasy setting for Savage Worlds that didn't feel like rehashed, generic, Tolkien based stuff.

Shaintar seems to fit the bill and I am very excited about forthcoming products, especially more information about the people and lands of Youlin Aradi. Unfortunately, I have been unable thus far to convince my home game group to try Savage worlds for anything other than Deadlands. So I hope that I can get my players (especially my wife) to take a look at Shaintar and maybe they will get as excited about the setting as I have.

Hey, folks. I'm Mark Knapik. I'm in Buffalo, NY, and we play games. I'm helping Sean out as part of the Raven's Flock, and as the head website admin person guy thing. Feel free to blame me for everything that is broken. :)

This is my Signature.

Hey there, I'm Yannick Le Guedart, aka. Torgan on the net. I'm from Toulouse, South-West of France, and... well, yes, I'm french, so if you find my english is weird, well... you're probably right about it :)

For the boring part, I'm 42 (yeah, that rocks :)), and I'm lead architect at overblog.com, the main blogging platform in Europe (still trying to reach the US, but it's not that easy).

I've been playing RPGs since 1984, a lot of D&D, sure, but so many others as well. I'm a great fan of the World of Greyhawk, and I'm been running some kind of mega campaign there for more than 20 years. I've been in the Savage World adventure since its beginning (in 2003), and I became the "official" translator of the Savage World Deluxe for Black Book Edition (the french editor of  Savage Worlds) two years ago. Now that the core rules are out, I'm supervising trenslations for Beast & Barbarians & Nemezis from GRAmel, with Interface Zero comming shortly afterwards. I've begun to translate Shaintar as well as a personnal projet, so Sean, don't hesitate to poke me if you're interested :)

I've been running the Raven's Quest in Shaintar, and now, my players are asking me to run a sequel so I guess it should happen shortly.

I'm really pleased to be part of the Shaintar adventure :)

Hey guys, I'm Sooz, in Alabama, and I'm playing in SPF's group as well as helping Raven's Flock it up here.

I'm the official Culture Warden, so if you have questions or anything in that department, please feel free to give me a holler.

Averjoe

Hi guys, I'm Joe. I also live in Alabama. I'm been gaming since the 80's. Cut my teeth on D&D, but I've playe many other systems. Several years ago I made the switch to Savage Worlds and have been using it exclusively ever since.  I was really intrigues by the Justice & Life concept, and couldn't resist when I saw a chance to get in on a game on Roll20. So, here I am. Nice to meet you all.

I am Howard Brandon, member of the Raven's Flock. I am operating out of a small town in Madison, Ga. I've been gaming since 1998 where I was introduced to Star Wars D6 by a friend. Within 3 months I was running my own games and it has been a life-long passion from that point forward. My predomient universe is, of course, Star Wars in any edition, but I am also a GM for a number of systems: Shadowrun, Lord of the Rings, Pathfinder, AD&D, Mutants and Masterminds, Legend of the Five Rings and may others. My first intro to Savage Worlds was thru Deadlands: Reloaded. I even have a Star Wars game that has been running for about 12 years. Though I'm new to Shaintar, I am excited to learn and grow.

I look forward to working and gaming with you all!

Hi there,

I'm Steve Perrin. I've been gaming since forever and wrote the first 3 editions of RuneQuest, among other projects. Sean introduced me to Savage Worlds at a DunDraCon some years back and I've run a pulp-Lost World campaign, a Barsoomian campaign, and am currently running both a FASA 1879 monster-playtest campaign with one group and test playing various Shaintar scenarios with another, all using Savage Worlds. As part of Sean's All Stars program I wrote the Pass Into Danger One Pager and am working on both the Dregordian book and the Black Lantern report on the Dragon Cult. If anyone has any thoughts on either of those subjects, be sure to drop me a line.

Welcome to the site, Steve, we're glad to have you. I'll be discussing your one-shot soon as part of my series on Six Times Epic and I'm very much excited to see the upcoming guidebooks!

Forgive how overdue this is, please.

My name is Carinn.  Though my in person gaming only began about 6 or 7 years ago, the hobby (and business) has absorbed my life:  I play, GM (yes, guys, I will get back to running again soon), and paint and customize minis (oi, the work I have yet to do!).  I will be helping with the Aevekar book and putting in my $.02 here and there on other books, as well.

Oh, and that Sean guy (the Fannon one) is pretty darned special to me.  I plan to keep him around for several decades.  My incredible good fortune is that he agrees with this plan.

Hello folks I go by Frudence and I am reading through the book for the first time tonight! Still not sure what character I'm making since I don't really have a default. I've found all kinds of unusual premises to work into class decisions in the past.

If you know Mark Middleton, that's my father. I've been gaming for about 17 years now.

Ah, you did the recent interview with Sean that was featured on the front page! Welcome to the site, Frudence. :)

Yes I did :D I just posted part 3 as well! I've known Sean several years now and heard about Shaintar in passing but never got to be involved until now. In the Shaintar book it's mentioned you also need the core Savage Worlds rules too - is it "Savage Worlds Deluxe Ruleset v3.4.1 for Fantasy Grounds II"?

That would be the Savage Worlds Rules codified to work with the tabletop rpg program called Fantasy Grounds. All you need to play Shaintar is the Savage Worlds Deluxe rules and the Shaintar: Player's Guide! :)

I'll take a look at the third part of the interview. :)

For Barsoom I use my own knowledge of the books plus the Adamant (I think) Mars book, which comes about as close to Barsoom as you can in this litigious world. At the moment that campaign is on hold so I can testplay some scenarios/game sourcebooks I'm working on and immerse myself in Shaintar. In preparation, I am playing a Dregordian Adept named Krissofalax as a GM PC in the testplay campaign.

My name is Greg Tripp and I hail from Northern California.

I started RP games during the very tail end of a D&D 4e game about 2 years ago.  We abandoned D&D for the FFF world of Savage Worlds.  We're still putting characters through the Realms of Cthullu, but will soon be ready to to move to the heroic fantasy of Shaintar.

I'm hoping to be able to provide our long time GM w/ enough logistics support to make it a full J&L campaign, but we may still go with a standalone slice of Shaintar.  Regardless, I expect to spend a good bit of time here.

My name is Tommy and I am in Manning, South Carolina.  I am a scummy Plaintiff's lawyer <insert favorite lawyer joke here> and I have played table roleplaying since my high school days in the late 70s.  Living in a small town, there are few gamers so unable to have a local gaming group but my son (Will) and I love to go to conventions and play and GM there.  Savage Worlds is our favorite system and we have loved all of our chances to play Shaintar with Sean.

Hey Steve,

I haven't decided yet.  I did note its close proximity.

DavidFredricksonJr.

I am in Greg's table top group. I joined them just a bit before he did, closer to the end of 3.x really, but that was only one campaign so it doesn't seem all that long ago. I have been playing table top D&D for most of my life. Still despise the mess of things that WotC made of it.
When our group switched from D&D to savage worlds I wasn't really sure what to make of the system at first. Couple that with the H. P. Lovecraftian world we found ourselves stuck in and I have spent the last few years as a fish out of water really. But with that over I can finally get into a real setting. This I look forward to. Fantasy settings just make more sense to me than trying to find your way thru 1920's europe.
I also paint minis for entertainment. Several of the ones used by the group are my work.

Dodging this thread seemingly for it feels like centuries, indulging people with some information is only proper.

My name is Ruben and I am an alcoholic. Wait that's not right, I am a fearsome orc rampaging in the Stahlheim region with two hammers called my fist.  All joking aside, I am from Buffalo NY and yes I can kidnap Mark Knapi at a moment notice since I know him.  Surpringinly I did not get into tabletops until my senior year in High School, making me quite a newcomer compared to many of the gamers here.  Gurps was my introduction into this hobby/obsession, then D&D 4th edition until I eventually got involved in this AD&D 2nd edition group I have been apart of for 4 years now.

I am hoping to contribute and strengthen this community by all means in the longrun,  wishing Shaintar to get the renown it deserves . Lets keep moving forward with this, making this living campaign a glorious one.

Sorry it's taken me so long to introduce myself but here it goes....

I am Brett from Lowell, MI.  I have been gaming since around '98 when I played a Werewolf game, and have damn near played everything under the sun since.  I only Run Savage Worlds now, but still am open to playing any game/system.  My favorite game is now a toss up between Shaintar and Hell on Earth.  I even put that HOE:RL game on Hiatas to run my J&L campaign.

I concur.  Most of my mooks can't hit his Parry... and when they do, they can't overcome his toughness.  His only weakness seems to be Red Headed Archers and 1 on 1 fights with Gargoyles.  Avoid those and you should have a long life of adventuring.

Keith Bailey

Hi Folks,

I should have done this long ago also. I am Keith Bailey, Live in Sylacauga, Alabama. I grew up in Colorado and love that place but my job keeps me fed and sheltered here. I found gaming while in the Marines in 1977 in Okinawa, Japan.

I started GM'ing about a month later. I have only recently came into Savage Worlds (about 16 months ago) And have started it as my go to system for my in person games. I was blessed to play in Sean's game at the 2013 Alabama Pheonix Fest, and have gotten to continue playing that Dwarf in the Rangers of Lorelei game on Roll20.

I hope to play in many games of Shaintar, as I am a total game-aholic.

It is good to hear from so many others.

Howdy all,

Greetings to all,

I am David. I learned about Shaintar two days ago when I played in Howard Brandon's game at Momocon in Atlanta. I have been playing tabletop games for five years. my first system was Pathfinder; I also have played most editions of D&D and several of the World of Darkness games. I look forward to the unique experience that Shaintar has to offer through its live campaign.

Hello!

I'm Chris, and I hail from Eastern Indiana.  I've been involved in RPGs since 1982, and have recently found myself involved heavily in Savage Worlds, and then recently found Shaintar.  Love the depth of the setting.  While my normal tabletop group may play Shaintar, I'll be running Shaintar using the Fantasy Grounds Virtual Tabletop platform.  I'll be assembling a group for a first adventure in the next few weeks, and we'll set off from there!

Thanks!

Ndreare

Hello all, my name is Rob (Ndreare on most forums).

I have been a gamer since around 87 or so. But a few years ago I discovered SW Shaintar during the Legend Unleashed KS.

I have not had a chance to play it yet, but one of my groups plans on jumping in starting after one of the players gets back from Vietnam in May.

I have read the PDFs and both physical books, but think reading and listening in on others discussions will help me learn more about the subtle aspects of the game.

Any advice on threads to read first?
